The SEPPmail Secure E-Mail Gateway allows you to create your own machine SSL or wildcard certificate through the configuration interface. For a test installation, it is not absolutely necessary to procure a paid SSL certificate. The certificate can be automatically generated and signed on the SEPPmail Secure E-Mail Gateway.

For this, go to the menu SSL and click the Request or create new certificate... button.

In the menu that appears, the fields listed below must be filled in:

The creation of a wildcard or SAN (Subject Alternate Name) SSL certificate is also possible. Wildcard certificates are not only valid for a dedicated host, but can be used for multiple hosts in a domain. SAN certificates, on the other hand, can contain several hostnames.

Example:

An SSL certificate with the name GINA test.testdomain.tld can only be used for this one host. Otherwise, a certificate error message is displayed in the web browser. A wildcard SSL certificate can be used on any host of a domain, e.g. GINA test.testdomain.tld, webmail.testdomain.tld or secmail.testdomain.tld.

To create a wildcard SSL certificate, enter the hostname with a leading star "*", for example "*.testdomain.net".

Detailed information can be found under REQUEST OR CREATE NEW CERTIFICATE (AUTHORITY).
