Initial situation:

In the company, the use of umlauts in the name part of SMTP email addresses is being considered.

Question:

Does the SEPPmail Secure E-Mail Gateway support umlauts or other special characters in the name part of the email addresses?

Answer:

Due to restrictions of the high-security operating system OpenBSD used, the use of these special characters is not possible.

However, since special characters generally cause problems in global email communication, the use of special characters is strongly discouraged, regardless of the OpenBSD restrictions.
