In this process, outgoing emails are initially encrypted/signed on the appliance, depending on the marking, and are no longer sent directly to the Internet, but are passed on to the protection component.

Incoming emails are initially received and checked by the protection component (please note that a virus check is not possible with encrypted emails!) and, subsequently, directed to the  SEPPmail Secure E-Mail Gateway. Cryptographically treated emails are now processed correspondingly on the SEPPmail Secure E-Mail Gateway (decryption and/or verification of signatures, if applicable also header tagging etc.). Subsequently, the appliance forwards the email to the email server.

Using the optional Protection Pack of the SEPPmail Secure E-Mail Gateway can be advisable in this constellation, as well. This way, the two-tier virus protection can also be guaranteed for encrypted emails which cannot be checked for viruses at the spam filter.
