Initial situation:

A firmware update of the individual members in a SEPPmail Secure E-Mail Gateway Cluster is to be implemented.

 

Question:

Does a specific order have to be observed when updating the individual cluster partners?

 

Answer:

Generally, all partners of a Cluster are equal. Thus, the order of an update is irrelevant.

If working in a SEPPmail Secure E-Mail Gateway Cluster with virtual IP addresses (see System IP ALIAS addresses), the hierarchy set here is to be taken into consideration when receiving the SMTP traffic to guarantee an undisturbed email flow during the update.

 

One exception are Frontend/Backend Clusters, since in this configuration the frontend machines do not have their own databases. In this case, the frontend machine(s) is/are to be updated first.
