Initial situation:
The SEPPmail Secure E-Mail Gateway seems to process emails very slowly.
Question:
What could be the causes for the slow processing on the SEPPmail Secure E-Mail Gateway?
Answer:
First of all, it must be ensured that the peripheral systems, such as upstream protection components (firewall, protection relay, but also DNS, LDAP if connected and so on), are working properly and are therefore not the cause of the delays.
If the delays are actually caused by the SEPPmail Secure E-Mail Gateway, it is usually due to an unreachable DNS server.
If several servers are entered under System DNS Use the following DNS servers, a DNS enquiry is initially always directed to the Primary one. If this cannot be reached, Alternate 1 is requested after the end of the timeout and, after the end of a further timeout, Alternate 2 is requested. The delay results from the sum of these timeouts.
This phenomenon is particularly potentiated with activated Protection Pack (PP) with additional DNS check procedures such as PTR check/Strict PTR check.
Another cause could be scanning for malware inside ZIP archives (see Search inside unencrypted zip archivesor Search inside unencrypted zip archives).
